How to connect the three pins of the potentiometer?

     Potentiometer (Potentiometer) is a common adjustable resistance component, usually used to regulate current or voltage, it has three pins, of which two outer pins are connected to the power supply, and the middle pin is usually used to output an adjustable voltage. The following is the connection of the three pins of the potentiometer:


Pin definition of potentiometer:
in 1 (left pin) : Connects to the positive side of the power supply, or to the signal input, usually one of the end points of the potentiometer.
Pin 2 (middle pin) : This is the sliding contact (slide), which adjusts its position with the rotation or slide of the potentiometer and is connected to the output for a variable voltage.
Pin 3 (right pin) : Connects to the negative side of the power supply, or to the signal ground (ground), usually the other end of the potentiometer.

Potentiometer wiring mode:
1. Used as an adjustable resistor:
Pin 1 (left pin) is connected to the positive end of the power supply (e.g. 5V or +12V).
Pin 2 (middle pin) serves as the output through which the adjusted voltage can be obtained.
Pin 3 (right pin) is connected to the negative terminal of the power supply (i.e. ground, GND).
In this connection, the rotation of the potentiometer changes the resistance ratio between pin 2 and pin 1 and pin 3, thus adjusting the voltage of pin 2.
2. Used as a voltage divider:
Pin 1 is connected to the positive terminal of the signal source or power supply.
Pin 2 is connected to the output where you want to get a variable voltage.
Pin 3 is connected to the ground or signal ground of the power supply.
At this time, the potentiometer acts as a voltage divider, and by rotating the potentiometer, the voltage of the middle pin (pin 2) can be adjusted, which is usually used in volume adjustment, brightness adjustment and other scenarios.
3. Application of control current:
In some circuits, a potentiometer can be used as a tunable current source. Similar to the above connection, but the role of the potentiometer is to control the amount of current flowing through the load.


A simple gesture:
Pin 1 ----> Power supply positive
Pin 2 ----> Output (or signal processing)
Pin 3 ----> Power supply negative (ground)


Note:
When connecting a potentiometer, you need to make sure that the middle pin (pin 2) is always connected to the part where you need to regulate the voltage, usually the signal processing part of the circuit.
Potentiometer power and voltage should be selected according to its specification table to avoid damage.
In some specific applications (such as tuning), the resistance value of the potentiometer (e.g. 10kΩ, 100kΩ, etc.) should be selected according to the circuit design.
