ROHM introduces high precision current detection amplifiers that support both negative and high voltages (40V/80V)

    Shanghai, China, April 8, 2025 - Global semiconductor manufacturer ROHM (headquartered in Kyoto City, Japan) today announced the launch of the new AEC-Q100*1 compliant high-precision current detection amplifiers "BD1423xFVJ-C" and "BD1422xG-C". The "BD1423xFVJ-C" in the TSOP-B8J package supports an input voltage of +80V, and is suitable for high voltage environments such as 48V power-driven DC-DC converters, redundant power supplies, auxiliary batteries, and electric compressors. According to its gain setting, it can be divided into three models: "BD14230FVJ-C", "BD14231FVJ-C" and "BD14232FVJ-C". The "BD1422xG-C" in a small SSOP6 package supports an input voltage of +40V, making it ideal for space-saving on-board equipment such as current monitoring and protection (overcurrent detection) in 5V/12V driven power networks in the body and drive control unit. According to its gain Settings, it can be divided into three models: "BD14220G-C", "BD14221G-C" and "BD14222G-C".

    Current detection amplifier is an amplifier used to measure circuit current indirectly. Its role is to amplify the tiny voltage drop generated by the shunt resistor *2 and convert it into a measurable voltage signal for applications such as system control and monitoring.
    The new product integrates the previous op-amp + discrete device op-amp circuit mode to save space, and can detect current only by connecting the shunt resistor. In addition, the new product uses a two-stage amplifier structure, the input stage uses a chopper amplifier *3, and the post-stage uses a self-stabilized zero amplifier *4. By matching a resistor inside the IC to determine the gain accuracy, it can not only suppress the influence of temperature changes, but also achieve a high precision and stable current detection of ±1%.
    In addition, even with an external RC filter circuit for noise suppression, the new product can maintain current detection accuracy, helping to reduce design time. Not only that, it also has negative voltage tolerance of up to -14V, and supports reverse voltage, reverse voltage and negative voltage inputs. The +80V input voltage is also added to the product lineup to support 48V power supplies for applications such as electric vehicles (XEVs) to meet the diverse needs of in-vehicle applications.

    The new product has been temporarily put into mass production in February 2025 at the scale of 100,000 units per month (sample price 450 yen/piece, excluding tax). The production base of the previous process is ROHM Hamamatsu Co., Ltd. (Hamamatsu City, Japan), The production facilities for the latter process are ROHM Integrated Systems (Thailand) Co., Ltd. (Thailand) and ROHM Electronics Philippines, Inc. (Philippines). The corresponding products can also be purchased from Ameya360, Oneyac, Sekorm and other e-commerce platforms. In addition, ROHM offers evaluation boards for customers to quickly evaluate application product designs. In the future, ROHM will continue to provide outstanding solutions that help improve the accuracy and reliability of on-board equipment.

    *1) Vehicle specification standard "AEC-Q100"
    AEC, short for Automotive Electronics Council, is a joint effort between large automakers and large U.S. electronic component manufacturers to develop reliability standards for automotive electronic components. Q100 is a standard for integrated circuits (ics).


*2) shunt resistor
    Insert the current path in series and measure the resistance of the circuit current by measuring the potential difference between the two ends.


*3) Chopper amplifier
    An amplifier circuit used to suppress signal misalignment and noise to a minimum. It is mainly used to accurately amplify weak DC signals and low frequency small signals.


*4) Self-stabilized zero amplifier
    Amplifiers with automatic correction of offset voltages (unnecessary noise and errors) to improve signal accuracy. Repeated sampling and correction through the internal circuit suppresses the offset voltage even during operation. Ideal for measurement and signal processing applications that require very high accuracy.
