    MALVERN, PA, USA; Shanghai, China - April 8, 2025 - Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH announced the introduction of the industry-leading, AEC-Q100 compliant RGBIR color sensor, the VEML6046X00, from the Opto-Electronics Division. The Vishay Semiconductors VEML6046X00 integrates a high sensitivity photodiode, low noise amplifier and 16-bit AD converter in a tiny opaque surface mount package of 2.67 mm x 2.45 mm with a height of just 0.6 mm.

    The recently released vehicle scale device has independent red, green, blue and infrared (IR) channels to calculate color temperature and achieve display white balance. The VEML6046X00 green channel optical spectral sensitivity is close to the level of the human eye, ensuring highly accurate measurements, while the infrared channel helps stabilize the output over a wide range of light sources. The sensor has an ambient light detection range of 0 lx to 176 klx, unsaturated in daylight, resolution up to 0.0053 lx/ct, and can be placed on the back of a dark lens.
    Operating at temperatures up to +110°C, the VEML6046X00 can be used for automotive display backlight control, infotainment systems, rearview mirror dimming, interior lighting control systems, head-up displays, color recognition, CCT measurement, ambient lighting and laser headlight monitoring. The sensor supports the easy-to-use I2C bus communication interface for these applications and has interrupt capabilities.
    The VEML6046X00 has a supply voltage of 2.5V to 3.6V, an I2C bus voltage of 1.7V to 3.6V, and a power consumption of only 0.5μA (typical) in off mode. The device complies with RoHS and Vishay green standards, is halogen-free, has a moisture sensitivity of J-STD-020E Class 2a, and has a workshop storage time of four weeks.
    The new RGBIR color sensor is now available for sample and has reached mass production with a lead time of 16 weeks.
