The RAA278830 LVDS solution enables ISO 26262 compliance for Renesas' industry-leading video diagnostic capabilities
Beijing, China, March 27, 2025 - Renesas Electronics (TSE: 6723), a global semiconductor solutions provider, today announced the launch of the RAA278830 video diagnostic bridge IC. As a highly integrated dual-channel low-voltage differential signal (LVDS) LCD video processor, the new IC integrates several core functions required for ISO 26262 ASIL Class B in-vehicle display systems. It is suitable for key application scenarios such as head-up display system (HUD), digital dashboard, electronic rearview mirror (CMS) and streaming media rearview mirror.
As automotive safety systems increasingly rely on display systems, presenting clear, error-free images to drivers becomes critical. Lost frames, frozen images and even wrong warning ICONS can seriously endanger driving safety. The RAA278830 has built-in functional safety features that prevent any image damage by monitoring signal integrity and the video content itself. Its internal diagnostic and measurement engine detects frozen video, abnormal colors, broken or damaged images, as well as blinking, shaking, and images that may obscure the driver's view of the road (for the HUD system).
Renesas expertise in in-vehicle video signal processing
Renesas has long been committed to providing superior video signal processing solutions for the automotive electronics application market. In addition to the standard analog video decoder, Renesas also introduces the award-winning Automotive HD-Link (AHL) family of products that support the transmission of high-resolution images over low-cost cables and connectors. The release of the RAA278830 further expands Renesas' already widely used line of integrated LCD controllers.
Key features of RAA278830:
Dual LVDS (Open-LDI) input/output
Meets ISO 26262 Functional Safety ASIL B rating
Implement CRC, parity, BIST, and redundant security mechanisms throughout the data path
Video diagnostic function
Real-time monitoring of timing, integrity and content of input/output video
Jitter, flicker, occlusion and glare detection
Spectrum spread technology reduces system-level EMI
Image enhancement engine improves image performance
Dual communication interface: I2C and SPI (configurable)
OSD and embedded font OSD based on SPI flash
SPI boot function (boot from SPI flash, no MCU required)
Supports multiple partitions and fail-safe OTA updates
Compact 72-pin SCQFN package (10mm x 10mm)
Passed AEC-Q100 Level 2 certification
Jason Kim, Vice President and General Manager of the Configurable Mixed-Signal Division at Renesas said: "Our automotive customers have long expected Renesas to incorporate functional safety features into advanced video processing technology. The RAA278830 is fully functional to create a safe, reliable, easy-to-implement and cost-effective LCD display solution for all types of passenger cars."
Supply information
The RAA278830 comes in a 72-pin 10mm x 10mm SCQFN package and is available for order today through Renesas and its authorized distributors. The RTK278830 evaluation board, which supports multiple configurations, is also available.
