onsemi Group launches 1500W heat pump water heater compressor driver solution

    On March 11, 2025, Dalianda Holdings, a leading international semiconductor component distributor in the Asia-Pacific market, announced that its Shiping unit launched a 1500W heat pump water heater compressor driver solution based on onsemi's NFAL5065L4BT intelligent power module (IPM).

    The core of carbon reduction is low energy consumption and high conversion efficiency, especially in the field of home appliances, especially in the conversion of electrical energy into heat or cold energy equipment. Heat pump water heater is a kind of efficient heating equipment, which uses a small amount of electric energy to drive the compressor refrigerant, and heats the water through the heat energy generated by the refrigerant state transformation, while discharging the cold air. Compared with traditional mains, natural gas, diesel and other energy sources, the heating efficiency of heat pump water heaters is increased by three times. And thanks to the addition of compressors and drivers, the heat pump water heater also has a higher energy efficiency performance. Based on onsemi's NFAL5065L4BT intelligent power module (IPM), the 1500W heat pump water heater compressor driver solution launched by United Nations World Peace can accelerate the marketization process of energy-efficient home appliances and contribute to the goal of carbon neutrality.

    The NFAL5065L4BT intelligent power module integrates a three-phase half-bridge Gate Driver, six IGBTs, a thermistor and three boot diodes, and is suitable for driving permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM), brushless DC motors (BLDC) and AC asynchronous motors (ACIM) and compressors. The IGBT is configured in a three-phase bridge with separate emitter output pins in the lower arm to monitor individual currents for maximum flexibility in selecting control algorithms, and has integrated emitter output pins for setting overcurrent protection. At the same time, the module has a comprehensive protection function, including the input control signal interlock protection function, external shutdown and undervoltage lock function. In addition, to enhance the flexibility and safety of the design, the module is equipped with internal comparators and voltage reference sources, which are connected to the external overcurrent protection circuit, so that the designer can easily set and adjust the level of overcurrent protection, thereby ensuring the stable operation of the motor and compressor, optimizing the energy efficiency and reliability of the system.

    In addition, the solution is also equipped with a number of high-performance products from onsemi. These include bridge rectifier DFB2060, step-down switching regulator NCP3170ADR2G, low voltage differential regulator NCP163ASN330, off-line regulator NCP10671BD100R, bus transceiver MC74ACT245DTG, operational amplifier NCS20081, and diode CM1224-0 4SO, etc. Thanks to the synergy of these products, the solution can improve the overall performance of heat pump water heaters and further promote energy conservation and emission reduction in the home appliance industry.
