Renesas launches RZ/V2N with integrated DRP-AI accelerators to expand its lineup of mid-range AI processors for future smart factories and smart cities

    Beijing, China, March 11, 2025 - Renesas Electronics (TSE: 6723), a global semiconductor solutions provider, today announced the launch of a new product for the large-scale visual AI market, RZ/V2N, further expanding its RZ/V family of microprocessors (MPUs) product lineup. Similar to its high-end RZ/V2H, the new product features Renesas' proprietary AI accelerator DRP (Dynamic Reconfigurable Processor) -AI3. Thanks to advanced pruning technology, energy efficiency of 10TOPS/W (trillion operations per watt per second) and AI reasoning performance of up to 15TOPS can be achieved. With the latest addition of RZ/V2N, the RZ/V series now covers the full range of markets from the low-end RZ/V2L (0.5TOPS) to the high-end RZ/V2H (up to 80TOPS).

    The new RZ/V2N MPU is significantly smaller than the RZ/V2H, with a package area of only 15mm2. Installation area reduced by 38%. RZ/V2N inherits the advanced features of the RZ/V series, combining high-performance AI with low power consumption. These optimizations reduce heat generation and eliminate the need for additional cooling fans, reducing the size and cost of embedded systems. Developers can easily implement visual AI in a wide range of applications, from AI cameras for traffic and congestion analysis in commercial facilities, industrial cameras for visual detection on production lines, to driver monitoring systems for behavioral analysis, and more.
    Renesas will present the RZ/V2N live at Embedded World 2025, which will take place in Nuremberg, Germany, from 11 to 13 March 2025, in Hall 1, Booth 234 (1-234).


Dual camera dual Angle image processing
    Similar to the RZ/V2H, the new RZ/V2N comes with four best-in-class arms. Cortex? A55 CPU core and a Cortex-M33 core, combined with a high quality image signal processor (ISP) Arm Mali-C55. The RZ/V2N also has a two-channel MIPI camera interface that connects two cameras to capture dual-angle images. Compared with the single camera system, the dual camera system can greatly improve the performance of space recognition, and can carry out more accurate human motion trajectory analysis and fall detection. In addition, the dual camera system can capture images of different locations, enabling efficient counting of vehicles in parking lots and identification of license plates using a single chip.

Comprehensive development environment
    The RZ/V2N will be equipped with Renesas evaluation board suite and software development environment, and offer multiple AI applications covering more than 50 use cases; These applications are available in the AI Application Library and AI SDK (GitHub). The SDK can help users without deep AI background to quickly evaluate and develop AI applications, reducing time to market. In addition, the partners will offer SOM (Modular System) boards, SBC (single-board computer), camera modules, and other products integrated with Renesas RZ/V2N. This reduces hardware design efforts, allowing developers to focus on AI application development and quickly bring products to market.


AI camera solution successful product portfolio
    Renesas develops AI camera solutions for a variety of applications such as factories, public facilities and commercial facilities. The solution consists of RZ/V2N, a power management IC and a real-time clock IC that can be used as a reference design for AI camera systems.
