On February 20, 2025, the leading international distributor of semiconductor components in the Asia Pacific market, DDA Holdings, announced the launch of its 48V/120A BMS solution based on Innoscience's InnoGaN INV100FQ030C VGaN devices.

BMS (Battery management System) is known as battery nanny or battery housekeeper, its main function is to intelligently manage and maintain each battery unit, monitor the state of battery operation, prevent its overcharge and overdischarge, so as to extend the service life of the battery. At present, most of the battery management systems on the market use Si MOS design, because Si MOS has parasitic diodes, it must be used in pairs to control the charge/discharge current. In order to break through this limitation, the company launched a 48V/120A BMS solution based on InnoGaN INV100FQ030C VGaN devices, which can replace two Si MOS with one product, significantly reducing development costs while reducing PCB board area.

INV100FQ030C is a dual pilot 100V silicon-based gallium nitride enhanced high electron mobility transistor developed by Invsecco based on advanced VGaN technology. The product adopts 4mm×6mm FCQFN package, supports dual pilot and bidirectional cut-off, and the on-resistance is only 100V/3.2mΩ. With no reverse recovery, ultra-low gate charge and other characteristics, suitable for BMS management system, high side load switch of bidirectional converter, switching circuit in power system and other applications. In BMS applications, when the system needs to be charged or discharged normally, the VGaN can be fully turned on by applying a 5V drive voltage between Gate-D1 or Gate-D2 to achieve system charging or discharging. When the system needs charge protection or discharge protection, the Gate signal of VGaN can be actively connected to D1 or D2 to realize the system's charge shutdown or discharge shutdown. At the same time, using the "body diode" feature of VGaN, the circuit can realize the function of discharging after charge protection or discharging after discharge protection. Thus, a VGaN can replace a pair of CHG, DSG MOS design.

At the same 100A load current, the traditional Si MOS series parallel BMS scheme requires up to 20 devices to achieve the required performance. Using the BMS solution based on VGaN devices, only 8 products can meet the temperature rise demand of 100A, not only reducing the number of devices by more than half, but also showing significant advantages in thermal performance.Core technical advantages: Small size: 65mm×165mm, PCB board area and PCB cost is 40% lower than Si MOS;
Compatibility: The current mainstream low-side AFE is used for charge and discharge control, and the specially designed logic conversion circuit is compatible with the CHG/DSG control logic of the current Si scheme;
Good heat dissipation performance: considering the packaging characteristics of VGaN, optimize the PCB layout to achieve the best heat dissipation performance;
Dual guide pass: Innosec VGaN (INV100FQ030C) replaces multiple Si MOS with one, reducing costs.
