Toshiba introduces a high-speed on-off small optical relay that shortens the test time of semiconductor test equipment

    Shanghai, China, February 20, 2025 - Toshiba Electronic Components and Storage Corporation (" Toshiba ") today announced the new optical relays "TLP3414S" and "TLP3431S" in the S-VSON4T[1] package, with faster on-time [2] than Toshiba's existing products. The off-state output voltage and on-state current ratings of the TLP3414S and TLP3431S are 40 V/250 mA and 20 V/450 mA, respectively. The product starts to support bulk shipping today.

    By improving the light output of the infrared LED on the input side and optimizing the design of the photodetector (photodiode array), the new optical relay enables efficient optical coupling and reduces the maximum on-time to 150 μs. The TLP3414S has approximately 50% shorter on-time than Toshiba's existing TLP3414, and the TLP3431S has approximately 62% shorter on-time than Toshiba's existing TLP3431.
    In addition, when the output is turned on, the on-resistance of these two products affects signal attenuation (TLP3414S: Max. 3Ω, TLP3431S: Max. 1.2Ω); When the output is turned off, the output capacitance affects the leakage of the high frequency signal (typical value 6.5 pF for both products). The new product is comparable to Toshiba's existing products [2], ensuring stable signal transmission.
    The new product is suitable for pin electronics [3] applications in semiconductor test equipment to measure the device under test (DUT) with high accuracy and speed while switching the signal.
    Due to the small S-VSON4T package, the surface area of the new product is reduced by approximately 20% compared to the VSON4 package of Toshiba's existing products [4], which helps to miniaturize semiconductor test equipment and other equipment.
    Toshiba will continue to offer more high-performance products to meet the demand for higher performance and faster speeds in semiconductor test equipment.
