Shanghai, China, February 20, 2025 - AMS OSram (SIX: AMS), a global leader in optical solutions, today announced the launch of two new sensor modules, reaffirming its deep development in computed tomography (CT) technology. As the core components of advanced diagnostic imaging technology, these two modules will provide more accurate diagnosis and treatment support for a variety of clinical applications such as oncology and cardiovascular disease treatment, helping to achieve early diagnosis of diseases. The new products will help upgrade medical imaging technology in various segments of the CT market. For the high-end CT market, AMS OSram has introduced a new system-level packaged sensor module specifically designed for photon counting detectors that significantly reduces radiation dose while increasing diagnostic value. Ams Osram also introduced a new sensor module for the price-sensitive CT market, which guarantees high-quality medical imaging at a competitive price.

Ivo Ivanovski, Head of Medical Imaging and Foundry product Line at AMS OSram, said: "AMS OSram is focusing on developing sensor modules that combine cutting-edge technology with cost-efficiency to enable high-resolution, informative and low-dose CT scans. Our high-performance and affordable sensor modules not only significantly enhance the accessibility of modern CT technology, but also deliver breakthrough performance improvements. "With our new photon-counting detector, AMS Osram is playing a key role in revolutionizing medical imaging technology and pushing medical treatment to new heights."AS5920M - AMS 'first innovative packaging solution for photon counting detectors
CT, as an important medical imaging technology, generates 3D images of the whole body or local organs through X-rays to assist doctors in diagnosing diseases and monitoring treatment effects. However, because CT relies on ionizing radiation, how to minimize radiation doses while ensuring diagnostic effectiveness has been a major societal challenge for universal access to modern medical services, such as pediatric examinations and screening applications.
In response to this challenge, AMS OSram launched the AS5920M photon counting detector, which uses an innovative technology to directly detect a single X-ray photon, breaking through the limitations of traditional X-ray detectors to measure radiation intensity indirectly. This unique detection technology not only significantly reduces the radiation dose of CT scans, but also ensures that image quality and resolution are not compromised, greatly expanding the scope of CT equipment for advanced diagnostic tasks and patient screening applications for regulatory certification.
In addition, the new AS5920M has ultra-high resolution. Its detector pixel size is nine times smaller than traditional CT detectors, and thanks to excellent material resolution, low noise and excellent contrast, the AS5920M can provide accurate diagnostic information in the early stages of disease, thereby improving patient outcomes.
With this future-proof innovation, AMS OSram offers CT System developers an advanced system-in-package (SiP) solution that reduces the complexity of system integration. The solution significantly optimizes the bill of Parts (BOM) by integrating multiple integrated circuits (ics) and passive components in a single package without the need for external components. Its four-sided fit System Package (BSIP) design supports the juxtaposition of multiple devices in any direction, enabling the construction of large detector areas, which are perfectly suited for clinical CT applications.

AS5952M - Cost-effective, high-performance 64-row CT imaging sensor module In order to realize the widespread use of CT medical services, the market urgently needs sensor modules with high cost performance and excellent performance. The AS5952M module was developed to meet this urgent need in the medical imaging industry. The module consists of three new AS5952 sensor chips and adopts a three-sided fit design to effectively reduce manufacturing complexity and cost. The module uses the stitching technology developed by AMS OSram fabs to ensure the high quality of the long sensor chip. The AS5952M combines dark current optimization, noise minimization, and power reduction to make it ideal for 64-slice CT systems with coverage up to 4 cm. In the mainstream CT market segment, this wide sensor coverage is critical to improve acquisition speed and reduce motion artifacts. The AS5952 application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) integrates a 256-channel analog-to-digital converter (ADC) and photodiode array in a single chip package. This integrated design not only significantly reduces the distance between the photodiode and the ADC, significantly reduces the cost, but also enables excellent noise control, making the AS5952M a model for performance and cost optimization for the price-sensitive CT market. For the price-sensitive CT market, AMS OSRAM introduces the new AS5952M sensor module to ensure high quality medical images at a cost-effective rate (Image: AMS OSRAM)
