The IBM Institute for Business Value (IBV) and Oxford Economics recently conducted a survey of 2,551 IT executives around the world to gain insight into how businesses are using mainframes and what role hosting platforms will play in the era of artificial intelligence and hybrid cloud. The results show that mainframes are already playing a pivotal role in supporting AI innovation, hybrid cloud strategies, and accelerating digital transformation. With unmatched security and processing power, mainframes are powering 70% of the world's transactions by value.

IBM's latest survey: How can hosts become the "best partner" for enterprise AI?
The ability of the mainframe to process massive amounts of data quickly, reliably and securely is not only a testament to its strong vitality, but also the key for enterprises to unlock the value of data and drive innovation.Ai and Mainframe: The "best Partner" for mutual Achievement According to the survey, 78 percent of IT executives surveyed said their organizations are piloting or implementing programs to incorporate AI into hosting applications and transactions. Specifically, enterprises see hosting as an important platform for deploying enterprise-level AI, playing an important role in driving innovation, strengthening cybersecurity, simplifying operations, and modernizing applications.
Hosting is an important part of your hybrid cloud strategy
Driving innovation: 79% of respondents believe hosting is critical to enabling AI-driven innovation and value. By applying AI directly to the host's transactional workloads, businesses can gain new insights and improve employee productivity. This maximizes the value of the core systems and enables higher-value business outcomes.
Improving security: In terms of security, 90 percent of executives surveyed said their organizations are piloting or implementing AI-driven cybersecurity programs; Eighty-two percent of respondents cited the importance of hosting in monitoring, analyzing and responding to cyber threats, and fully recognized its outstanding security performance.
System management Modernization: 74 percent of respondents said they are integrating AI into mainframe operations to enhance system management and maintenance. At the same time, 61 percent of executives say that using generative AI on the mainframe is important to modernizing applications in their organizations. Generative AI can help developers modernize or build applications faster and more efficiently, upending their mainframe modernization strategies and accelerating the speed to value while closing the associated skills gap.
Hosting is an important part of your hybrid cloud strategy Hosting also plays a crucial role in your hybrid cloud strategy, helping you deploy application workloads in the most appropriate computing environment. Critical workloads such as financial transactions, medical records and government services cannot be achieved without leading edge security, reliability and scalability. With hosting to handle these workloads, organizations can leverage their optimized architecture for unmatched performance and efficiency, minimizing cost and risk across the IT ecosystem.
Hosting is an important part of your hybrid cloud strategy
This approach has proven to deliver a significant return on investment: Companies that consciously adopt and design hybrid cloud architectures can see more than three times their returns through digital transformation. However, to fully realize these benefits, enterprises must ensure real-time updating and application modernization of host systems and integrate them with distributed data, applications, the cloud, and modern development practices.Fully unleash the potential of hybrid cloud and artificial intelligence As digital transformation deepens, businesses need to leverage existing hosting investments to unlock the full potential of data through hybrid cloud and AI technologies. IT executives should rethink their mainframe strategy now and take key actions:
• Make a conscious effort to strengthen the IT foundation. To build a solid IT foundation, organizations should consciously adopt and design hybrid cloud architectures, modernize hosting applications, and develop clear integration and data sharing strategies. This includes optimizing the business value of technology assets, developing an application modernization strategy that aligns with business objectives, and prioritizing integration between hosts and other technologies for seamless data exchange and API connectivity. In this way, companies are expected to improve their overall competitiveness, reduce costs and better respond to changing business needs.
• Fully promote artificial intelligence innovation. Organizations should use AI to empower DevOps teams, improve mainframe operations, and integrate AI into their business, including: equipping developers with generative AI AIDS to accelerate application discovery, analysis, and modernization; Improve operational capabilities with smart assistive tools and next-generation chatbot assistants; And leveraging AI to gain insights to optimize business use cases. By embracing AI, companies can streamline modernization, improve operational efficiency, and drive business growth in the era of hybrid cloud and AI.
• Invest in leading host features to accelerate skill progression. Enterprises should make full use of the latest hosting capabilities, cultivate a highly skilled and diversified host talent team, and improve the skills of host personnel through artificial intelligence tools. Take advantage of new host features such as advanced encryption and authentication, advanced processor chips, and dedicated AI accelerators. Addressing skills gaps through targeted skills training and mentorship programmes; And empowering hosting professionals through AI tools, assistants, and collaboration programs such as the Hosting Skills Council.
Accelerate digital transformation In the new era of hybrid cloud and artificial intelligence, there is still a place for consoles. As a strategic asset that helps businesses ensure security, data privacy and operational efficiency, it remains essential for businesses to remain competitive. With a modernization strategy that leverages the benefits of hosting, businesses can accelerate their digital transformation and open up new opportunities for growth and innovation.
