What is the difference between power battery and lithium battery?

  There are some connections between power batteries and lithium batteries, but there are also clear differences. Here are the main differences:


1. Definition and use
  Lithium battery: A lithium battery is a battery that uses lithium metal or lithium compounds as the anode of the battery. It is widely used in various electronic devices, such as mobile phones, laptops, digital cameras and so on.
  Power battery: Power battery usually refers to the battery system used for electric vehicles (such as electric cars, electric buses, electric motorcycles, etc.) to provide power drive. Power batteries can use a variety of technologies, but common types now include lithium batteries, especially lithium iron phosphate batteries and ternary lithium batteries.


2. Battery type
  Lithium batteries: Lithium batteries are a broad category that includes different battery technologies such as:
  Lithium-ion Battery (Li-ion)
  Lithium Polymer Battery (Li-Po)
  Lithium iron phosphate battery (LiFePO?)
  Ternary lithium battery (NCM, NCA, etc.)
  Power battery: Power battery usually refers to the battery used for electric vehicles, the common type of power battery is lithium battery, especially lithium iron phosphate battery and ternary lithium battery. Although power batteries are an application of lithium batteries, they tend to have higher power and energy requirements.


3. Performance requirements
  Lithium batteries: In portable electronic devices, lithium batteries are mainly concerned with higher energy density, longer service life and smaller volume. They typically require lower discharge currents and smaller power outputs.
  Power battery: Power battery needs to provide high power and long-term stable current output to meet the high-speed driving and acceleration needs of electric vehicles. Therefore, power batteries generally have higher discharge currents, high temperature resistance, and higher energy density and power density requirements.


4. Security

  Lithium battery: Due to the high energy density of lithium batteries, operations such as overcharge, overdischarge, and short circuit may cause thermal runaway, which has certain safety risks. To ensure safety, lithium batteries are usually equipped with protective circuits.
  Power batteries: Power batteries need to pay special attention to safety, especially in the case of high current and high power output, safety is more important. Many power battery packs use a more stringent management system (BMS, battery management System) to ensure that the battery is in a safe state during charging and discharging.


5. Design and structure
  Lithium battery: Usually the design is relatively light, compact structure, suitable for electronic products, battery pack size and weight are relatively small.
  Power batteries: Power batteries generally need to be designed to be more durable, reliable, and to withstand larger power outputs. The battery pack structure of the power battery is more complex, usually containing multiple battery units, which are combined into a large-capacity battery pack through series and parallel, and the energy density and power density need to be specially optimized.


6. Life and number of cycles
  Lithium batteries: In general, the cycle life of lithium batteries is between 300 and 500 times, depending on the type of battery and the conditions of use.
  Power batteries: Power batteries usually have a longer service life, often more than 1000 charge and discharge cycles. Some high-performance power batteries (such as lithium iron phosphate batteries) can even reach 2000-3000 charge and discharge cycles.
