Beijing, China, September 25, 2025 - Renesas Electronics Corporation (TSE: 6723), a global semiconductor solutions provider, today announced the launch of the RA8T2 microcontroller (MCU) product line for high-end motor control. This series of products is based on the 1GHz Arm Cortex-M85 processor and can be optionally equipped with the 250MHz Arm Cortex-M33 processor. It can provide outstanding performance and meet the real-time control requirements of industrial equipment, robots and other mid-to-high-end motors that need high-speed and precise operating systems. The optional Cortex-M33 processor enables customers to simultaneously achieve real-time control, communication functions and non-real-time operations on a single chip, thereby saving costs, reducing power consumption and minimizing the space occupied by the circuit board.

The RA8T2 MCU fully leverages the high performance of the Arm Cortex-M85 processor and Arm's Helium? Technology brings significant performance improvements to the implementation of digital signal processors (DSP) and machine learning (ML). This enhanced performance supports AI capabilities for predicting motor maintenance needs, which helps reduce high downtime costs.
In addition to its outstanding processing capabilities, the RA8T2 MCU also provides high-speed multi-protocol industrial network support through a variety of communication interfaces, including two Gigabit Ethernet MacS with DMA, a dual-port EtherCAT slave interface, and other rich interfaces. In a factory automation environment, high-speed communication is of vital importance - each device needs to be connected to the factory's internal network and continuously synchronized with other machines to send and receive instructions and data.
The RA8T2 is equipped with up to 1MB of high-speed MRAM (Magnetoresistive Random Access Memory), with an access speed of up to 100MHz. Compared with flash memory, MRAM has a faster write speed, higher durability and stronger data retention capability. In addition, the RA8T2 integrates tightly coupled memory (TCM) - the TCM capacity of Cortex-M85 is 256KB. The Cortex-M33 version has a capacity of 128KB. TCM technology can provide users with low-jitter high-precision real-time performance, maintaining stable operation even in motor control processing with a large number of interrupts and branches.
Daryl Khoo, Vice President of the Embedded Processing Marketing Division at Renesas, said: The RA8T2 product group has consolidated our outstanding position in the field of motor control solutions, featuring excellent performance and functionality. This product demonstrates the breadth and depth of Renesas' technology and also reflects our insight into the needs of motor control customers in building the next generation of factory automation and robotics products."
A function set optimized specifically for motor control
The brand-new RA8T2 product is equipped with a timer function that supports up to 300MHz PWM performance, which is convenient for control software operation and can efficiently generate waveforms to drive the inverter. The complementary PWM function of the GPT timer is specifically optimized for inverter drive and can easily implement various control algorithms: including multi-phase (including single-phase/three-phase) complementary PWM output, automatic insertion of dead time, generation of asymmetric PWM signals, and interlocking control with ADC and comparators. This timer is also equipped with a phase counting function, which can control AC servo systems that require axis position information through a two-phase pulse encoder. The ADC of RA8T2 features 16-bit resolution and channel independent sampling hold function (three channels), supporting high-precision synchronous sampling of three-phase current values. This design eliminates the need for correction processing, reduces the software burden and improves control accuracy. This ADC is also equipped with two sets of units, which can simultaneously sample the three-channel currents of two motors. The port output enable (POEG) and high-speed comparator function can quickly turn off the PWM output when overcurrent is detected, and the off state (high resistance state, high level, low level) can be selected according to the inverter specification.
Renesas' outstanding position in the field of embedded processing for motor control
Renesas has been providing dedicated MCUS for motor control for over 10 years. The company ships over 230 million motor control-specific MCUS to thousands of customers worldwide every year. In addition to multiple RA MCU product groups, Renesas has also launched motor control-specific devices in its 32-bit RX product family, 16-bit RL78 MCU and 64-bit RZ MPU product lines. In addition, the company has launched the industry's first ASSP dedicated to motor control based on the RISC-V architecture.
