On April 17, 2025, Shanghai, China - Starlight (Shanghai) Electronic Technology Co., LTD. (stock abbreviation: Starlight, stock code: 688213) recently announced the launch of the Automotive Sensor(AT)Series 3MP high-performance automotive-grade image sensor - SC360AT. This new product is the first one from Starlight to adopt CarSens? Image sensor products with Stacked BSI + Rolling Shutter architecture fabricated by XR Gen 2 process technology. As a 3.0μm pixel size image sensor, the SC360AT is equipped with SuperPixGain HDR? With multiple advanced technologies such as 2.0 and LFS, it integrates performance advantages like high sensitivity, high dynamic range (up to 140dB), low noise, and low power consumption, and supports LED flicker suppression. It provides accurate and reliable real-time images for various ADAS applications such as side view, rear view, and surround view, meeting the upgrade requirements of intelligent vehicle perception systems. Furthermore, the SC360AT complies with the requirements of two automotive standards, namely ISO 26262 ASIL-B automotive functional safety and ISO 21434 automotive Cybersecurity. With high reliability and high security, it contributes to the accelerated innovation of automotive intelligence and connectivity.

Under the trend of accelerated evolution and large-scale popularization of intelligent vehicle technology, the number of cameras equipped in a single vehicle will continue to increase. Meanwhile, advanced intelligent driving assistance functions have put forward higher requirements for environmental perception accuracy, driving the market demand for high-resolution and high-performance in-vehicle CMOS image sensors to further increase. According to the latest forecast by TSR, the global shipment volume of automotive CMOS image sensors will increase from 380 million units to 480 million units from 2023 to 2028. In terms of the application of in-vehicle ADAS cameras, 3MP is gradually becoming the mainstream resolution configuration, providing vehicles with more comprehensive environmental perception capabilities and thereby promoting the smooth implementation of more advanced intelligent driving assistance functions on the entire vehicle.

SuperPixGain HDR?  2.0 technology, creating high-precision visual perception images
During vehicle operation, complex and changeable light conditions such as low light, strong light and backlight pose a great challenge to the imaging quality and accuracy of on-board cameras. Based on CarSens? The SC360AT image sensor fabricated by the XR Gen 2 process has a large pixel size of 3.0μm and is equipped with SuperPixGain HDR? It features multiple advanced technologies from Starlight, including 2.0, and supports various high dynamic range (HDR) modes. With outstanding performance advantages such as sensitivity, signal-to-noise ratio, and dynamic range, it provides clear and accurate real-time image acquisition for in-vehicle cameras, further assisting intelligent vehicle perception systems in achieving precise identification and judgment.

High sensitivity and high signal-to-noise ratio

The SC360AT image sensor innovatively adopts SuperPixGain HDR? The 2.0 technology, through a single-pixel + overflow charge storage architecture, achieves a dual improvement in sensitivity and signal-to-noise ratio. The sensitivity of SC360AT is as high as 12348mV/lux*s, and its peak quantum efficiency (QE peak) in the visible light band of 520nm is as high as 82%. Compared with the traditional large and small pixel architecture CIS, the SC360AT based on the single-pixel + overflow charge storage architecture effectively avoids problems such as optical crosstalk and chromatic aberration caused by the large and small pixel architecture. With excellent sensitivity and signal-to-noise ratio, it provides the camera with bright and clear high-quality images.

High dynamic Range (HDR)
Does the SC360AT support SuperPixGain HDR? + VS, SuperPixGain HDR? It features multiple HDR modes and can provide excellent high dynamic range imaging for in-vehicle cameras. At SuperPixGain HDR? In the + VS four-frame HDR mode, the SC360AT can achieve a dynamic range of up to 140dB, effectively addressing the issues of overexposure in bright areas and missing details in dark areas under extreme lighting conditions such as backlighting (tunnel exits) and strong light (high beams of oncoming vehicles at night), further enhancing the accuracy and efficiency of on-board camera detection and recognition. In terms of three-frame HDR mode, the SC360AT supports SuperPixGain HDR? The mode (dynamic range >110dB) fuses three frames of high gain, low gain and overflow under the same exposure to make the light and dark details of the captured real-time image clearly visible. Multiple HDR mode options are available to meet the diverse configuration upgrade requirements of ADAS cameras.
Outstanding noise suppression performance, combined with ultra-low power consumption performance
Low-light environments such as roads at night and underground parking lots with insufficient lighting pose more stringent requirements for the noise suppression performance of image sensors. Based on Starlight's advanced SFCPixel? The new SC360AT features an outstanding noise suppression performance thanks to technologies such as ultra-low noise peripheral reading circuits. Compared with products of the same specification in the industry, the read noise (RN) and fixed noise (FPN) of the SC360AT are reduced by approximately 11% and 21% respectively, and its PRNU is significantly reduced by about 49%. Even in low-light scenarios, it can provide clear and low-noise images for on-board cameras, which is beneficial for the accurate recognition and judgment of intelligent vehicle vision systems.
Based on Starlight's advanced CarSens? The SC360AT image sensor with the Stacked BSI architecture and the XR Gen 2 process technology has achieved a significant reduction in power consumption. At SuperPixGain HDR? In the + VS four-frame HDR mode RAW format, the typical power consumption of the SC360AT is as low as less than 310mW. With the performance advantage of ultra-low power consumption, it helps to reduce the heat generated by the in-vehicle camera during operation, thereby enhancing the reliability and stability of the in-vehicle camera.

LED flash suppression technology solves the difficulty of vehicle perception
When a vehicle is in motion on the road, the flickering of LED lighting devices such as traffic lights and LED headlights can interfere with the image shooting effect of the on-board camera (CIS), causing the CIS imaging image to appear with stripes, flickering light spots and other phenomena, which affects the driver's and the assisted driving system's judgment of traffic conditions. The SC360AT is equipped with the LFS technology (LED Flicker Suppression Technology) independently developed by Starlight. By adjusting the exposure duration of some pixels, it covers the LED flicker gap, ultimately obtaining complete image information without LED flicker. This can help the ADAS system accurately identify the color and status of traffic lights and the lights of nearby vehicles and make timely decisions.
The SC360AT offers two package forms, iBGA and COB, providing more diverse and flexible options for clients to upgrade the circuit architecture and structural design of in-vehicle cameras.
Shi Wenjie, vice President of product marketing at Starlight, said, "The SC360AT is Starlight's first device to adopt CarSens?" Image sensor products with Stacked BSI + Rolling Shutter architecture fabricated by XR Gen 2 process technology. As a new 3MP automotive-grade image sensor, the SC360AT is equipped with SuperPixGain HDR? Multiple advanced technologies from Starlight, such as 2.0 and LFS, perform outstandingly in terms of sensitivity, dynamic range, noise suppression, and LED flicker suppression, providing reliable, clear, and accurate real-time images for applications like side-view, rearview, and surround-view cameras in vehicles. The in-vehicle (AT) series image sensor products under Starlight cover resolutions ranging from 1MP to 8MP and are suitable for three major application scenarios: ADAS, perception, and in-cabin. In the future, Starlight will continue to expand its AT series product matrix, providing more high-performance and highly reliable automotive-grade image sensor products to facilitate the advanced development of intelligent vehicle applications.

The SC360AT is currently accepting samples and is scheduled to enter mass production in Q3 of 2025. For more information about the SC360AT product, please contact the sales staff of Starway.
