    MALVERN, PA, USA; Shanghai, China - December 12, 2024 - Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH has announced that its VCNL36828P fully integrated proximity sensor has won two industry awards. The device won the "IoT Product of the Year Award" at the 2024 China IoT Innovation Award and the "Best Sensor of the Year Award" at the 2024 EE Awards Asia Gold Awards.
    The IoT Innovation Awards, which have been successfully held for eight consecutive years by the leading electronic technology media, are designed to recognize products and technologies introduced in the past year that have had a profound impact on the iot industry. Organised by AspenCore, the world's largest media group in the technology electronics sector, the EE Awards recognise products, companies and individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the innovation and development of the electronics industry in Asia. This year, both awards praised Vishay's VCNL36828P for bringing improved energy efficiency, space savings and performance to consumer applications.
    The VCNL36828P uses a vertical cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) that integrates a photodiode, an ASIC, a 16-bit ADC, and an intelligent dual I2C slave address in a 2.0 mm x 1.0 mm x 0.5 mm small surface-mount package. Compared to the previous generation solution, the package area of the device is reduced by 20%, the standby current is reduced by 20% to 5 μA, and the sunlight cancellation is increased by 40% to 140 klx. With a proximity sensor detection range of 200 mm and a typical rated voltage of 1.8 V, the device offers excellent proximity detection performance while reducing power consumption and increasing efficiency for space-constrained, battery-powered applications.
    The VCNL36828P can be used to automatically wake up and turn off smartphone and smartwatch screens, in addition to detecting whether the user is wearing a true wireless stereo (TWS) headset, virtual reality/augmented reality (VR/AR) headset, and smart glasses. To reduce the cost of these applications, the smart dual I2C slave address of the proximity sensor connects two proximity sensors without the need for a multiplexer.
