Technology

3D movies are everywhere. Do you really understand what the principle of 3D is?

Ⅰ.3d Principle - Introduction
3D imaging is produced by the visual difference between a person's two eyes. There is generally about 8 centimeters of distance between a person's two eyes (pupils). To enable people to see 3D images, it is necessary for the left eye and the right eye to see different images, creating a certain gap between the two pictures, that is, to simulate the situation when the actual human eye views them. The stereoscopic feeling of 3D comes from this.

Ⅱ.3d Principle - Polarized 3D
Polarized 3D technology is also known as polarized 3D. Polarizing 3D technology, which is passive reception and often applied in the projector industry, requires more than two projectors with exactly the same performance parameters to achieve a 3D effect. In contrast, polarizing 3D technology used in the television industry requires a refresh rate of 240Hz or above for the picture. This 3D technology has a relatively low cost in terms of auxiliary equipment, but it has higher requirements for output devices.

Ⅲ.3d Principle - Shutter-type 3D technology
Shutter 3D technology works based on the refresh time of the human eye's image frequency. By increasing the fast refresh rate of the picture (at least 120Hz), the left eye and the right eye each refresh the image at 60Hz, so that people will not feel the image shake and maintain the same frame rate as 2D video. The two eyes of the audience see the rapidly switching different pictures and create illusions in the brain, thus viewing stereoscopic images.

.3d Principle - Implementation
There are various forms of 3D stereoscopic film production, among which the polarized glasses method is widely adopted. It uses the method of observing scenes with the human eye. It employs two parallax film cameras placed side by side, with the left and right eyes of a person respectively, to simultaneously capture two film images with slightly horizontal parallax. During the projection, the two film films are respectively loaded into the left and right film projectors, and two polarizing filters with polarization axes at 90 degrees to each other are respectively installed in front of the projection lenses. It presents a series of continuous three-dimensional images, making the audience feel as if the scenes are coming towards them or entering the deep recessed areas of the screen, which can generate a strong sense of "being there in person".
