Renesas' RA0 MCU series, launched in 2024, has won the favor of many customers with its economic efficiency and low power consumption advantages. The RA0L1 series, while maintaining these advantages, adds capacitive touch functionality, enabling designers to create responsive, aesthetically pleasing and low-power user interfaces at an extremely low cost.
The RA0L1 series MCU boasts an outstanding power consumption performance in the industry: the current is as low as 2.9mA in working mode and only 0.92mA in sleep mode. In addition, this series also integrates a high-speed on-chip oscillator (HOCO), featuring the fastest wake-up speed among similar products. The fast wake-up function enables the RA0L1 MCU to maintain standby mode for A longer time, and its power consumption is reduced to a negligible 0.25μA, with current consumption reduced by up to 90% compared to other solutions.
A feature set optimized for low cost
The feature set of the RA0L1 series is specifically optimized for cost-sensitive applications. Its operating voltage range is as wide as 1.6V to 5.5V, so customers do not need to configure additional level converters/regulators in 5V systems. This series of MCUS also integrates multiple communication interfaces, analog functions, security functions and security mechanisms, which helps to reduce the BOM cost for customers. The product offers a variety of packaging options, including a 4mm×4mm 24-pin QFN micro package.
In addition, the high-precision (±1.0%) HOCO equipped in the new MCU can enhance the baud rate accuracy, eliminating the need for independent oscillators for designers. Unlike other HOcos in the industry, this oscillator can maintain this accuracy in an environment ranging from -40°C to 125°C. The wide-temperature feature enables customers to simplify thermal design without the need for time-consuming and costly "fine-tuning" after reflow soldering.
Renesas' outstanding advantages in capacitive touch technology
Renesas offers the industry's leading capacitive touch technology, helping customers quickly and economically achieve high-quality touch interfaces in various systems. Its self-capacitance method can simplify the waterproof design and reduce the design complexity compared with the mutual capacitance scheme. Renesas' multi-frequency measurement technology complies with the fourth-level standard of IEC61000-4-3 and is suitable for medical applications that require strong protection against electromagnetic interference. In addition, Renesas provides dedicated Capacitive Touch development resources, including the QE for Capacitive touch tool, which simplifies the sensitivity adjustment of capacitive keys and accelerates the development process.
Daryl Khoo, Vice President of the Embedded Processing Marketing Division at Renesas, said: The RA0L1 integrates the advantages of the RA0 series MCU in terms of power consumption and cost-effectiveness, as well as our outstanding capacitive touch technology and tools. We look forward to our customers using these devices to create more innovative touch interface solutions.

The brand-new RA0L1 product group of MCUS is supported by Renesas' Flexible Configuration Software Package (FSP). FSP offers all the necessary infrastructure software, including multiple RTOS, BSPS, peripheral drivers, middleware, connectivity, networking and security stacks, as well as reference software for building complex AI, motor control and cloud solutions, thereby accelerating application development. It enables customers to integrate their existing code and selected RTOS with FSP, providing full flexibility for application development. With the help of FSP, customers can simplify the process of mutual migration with other RA series products.
