Toshiba introduces gate driver ics for in-vehicle DC brush motors to help reduce device size

    Shanghai, China, March 13, 2025 - Toshiba Electronic Components & Storage Co., LTD. (" Toshiba ") today announced the mass production of the "TB9103FTG" gate drive IC[1] for automotive DC brushed motor applications, typical applications of which include latched motors [2] and locking motors [3] for electric rear doors and electric sliding doors. As well as electric Windows and electric seat drive motor.

    Automotive components are now largely electrified, and the demand for motors, as well as the number of motors integrated in cars, is increasing. With the increase in the number of drive ics used in electric motors, people are more inclined to adopt highly integrated and miniaturized system solutions. In addition, some motor applications do not require control of speed, only a driver IC with simple functions and performance。
    The TB9103FTG provides optimized gate drive IC functionality and performance for DC brushed motors that do not require speed control, opening the way to more compact designs. It has a built-in charge pump circuit [4] that ensures the voltage needed to power the MOSFETs outside the motor. In addition, it has a gate monitoring function to prevent the generation of through current by automatically controlling the gate signal output timing for the high-low external MOSFETs. At the same time, the IC also has a built-in sleep function, which can reduce power consumption when standby.
    The new IC can be used as either a single-channel H-bridge or a two-channel half-bridge. In addition to being a motor drive IC, it can also be combined with external MOSFETs to replace mechanical relays and other mechanical switches, contributing to quieter operation and higher equipment reliability.

    The TB9103FTG comes in a 4.0mm × 4.0mm (typical value) VQFN24 package, which helps reduce the size of the device.

    Going forward, Toshiba will continue to expand its product line of in-vehicle motor driver ics, contributing to the electrification and safety improvement of in-vehicle devices.
