Shanghai, China, December 18, 2024 - AMS (SIX: AMS), a global leader in optical solutions, today announced a partnership with automotive technology leader Valeo for an innovative Open System Protocol (OSP) technology designed to transform the way automotive interiors are lit and revolutionize the automotive industry's concept of cabin lighting. Combined with AMS OSram's pioneering OSIRE E3731i smart LED and Valeo's dynamic ambient lighting system, the two companies will set a new standard for vehicle interior design and functionality.

Valeo - AMS OSRAM - Smart LED for dynamic ambient lighting
The role of automotive interior lighting is becoming more and more prominent, and the mainstream trend of cockpit design should meet the needs of end users: easy to use, personalized, and can provide clear information in line with the user's lifestyle. Therefore, dynamic ambient lighting brings many new opportunities.
The application of smart leds has enabled a highly controllable system capable of producing animation effects throughout the cockpit or in specific areas. The speed, brightness and color of each LED can be adjusted to provide warning or visual feedback. Applications range from incoming call alerts, visual personal assistants, and input for navigation or ADAS systems.
The Open System Protocol (OSP) is an advanced communications framework that enables microcontrollers to manage a range of intelligent RGB (red-green-blue) leds (OSP-RGBI). These devices differ from regular leds in that each OSP-RGBi contains a smart IC that integrates a driver, temperature sensor, storage unit, and OSP-compatible serial bus interface. This integrated design enables dynamic and animated lighting applications to enhance the aesthetics and safety of vehicle interiors.
Valeo has developed a complete environmental lighting system comprising optics, electronics and software. The system enables high optical uniformity and color accurate RGB ambient lighting while ensuring smooth light animation in the cabin. Valeo's expertise in electronics and software is the key to achieving high quality performance.
Hermann Senninger, Senior Product Manager at AMS Osram, said: "Dynamic interior lighting is not just about enhancing the beauty of the vehicle, it also marks the dawn of a new era in which interactive, responsive cabin environments will greatly enhance the passenger experience. We are impressed by the speed and professionalism of Valeo lighting systems worldwide. Their team expertly applied OP-RGBI technology and delivered outstanding solutions to customers in record time, completing a process that would normally take two years in less than one year."
Christophe Le Ligne, Vice President of Research and Development at Valeo, said: "Interior lighting is an important part of the in-car experience. Dynamic applications open up a wide range of possibilities, from distinctive brand identities to highly personalized interior experiences. The system is also able to provide visual information on vehicle status and performance. In addition, the system software can be updated throughout the life cycle of the vehicle to provide more animation effects (new features and personalization). In a fast-paced market such as China, AMS OSram has demonstrated its expertise and flexibility to deliver high-quality products on time, ensuring that customer needs are met."
Ams OSram invites automotive manufacturers and equipment suppliers to jointly explore the potential of OSP to create a more attractive, functional and unique automotive environment. About OSP and OSIRE? For more details on Smart leds, please visit the AMS OSram website.
