Tysondelo, Belgium, November 29, 2024 - Melexis, a global microelectronics engineering company, announced the launch of a new absolute magnetic encoder chip, the MLX90382. The chip is small in size, has excellent resistance to stray magnetic fields, supports flexible induction on and off-axis, and enables seamless integration including integration with micro-motors. With its 14-bit resolution, differential output and wide speed range of up to 200k e-RPM, the product is ideal for industrial automation, robotics and mobility solutions.
As the range of applications for robotics and automation solutions continues to expand from small, specialized applications to more everyday scenarios, the demand for encoders that can provide accurate and cost-effective motion feedback in these systems grows. The feedback mechanism of high speed encoders is essential to ensure the correct operation and safety performance of motor driven applications such as robotic arms, automatic packaging machines and industrial braiding machines.
The MLX90382 is a magnetic position sensor that integrates a Hall magnetic front end, an analog-to-digital converter, zero-delay on-chip digital signal processing, and multiple output drivers. The device adopts Triaxis? The latest development of the technology, applying its expertise in magnetic position sensing to high-speed encoder devices. By detecting the three components of the flux density (Bx, BY, and Bz) and measuring the differential magnetic field on the Z-axis, the MLX90382 is able to achieve accurate tracking of absolute angular position and velocity. In addition, its speed can reach 200,000rpm, stray magnetic field immunity is strong, up to 360 degrees anti-stray magnetic field (corresponding to 4kA/m magnetic field strength).
The MLX90382 effectively solves common assembly challenges in complex motor drive applications and supports flexible installation on and off-axis for greater user convenience. This feature enables the chip to support hollow shaft applications, allowing wiring harnesses or other components to pass through the shaft without interfering with encoder feedback, reducing design complexity to some extent and driving technological innovation.
The MLX90382 comes in a compact, standard single-chip 4 x 4 mm2 QFN-24 package that is RoHS compliant and supports 5V and 3.3V applications. Both models are certified to AEC-Q100 (Level 0) to ensure product reliability. In addition, the chip supports the SIL2-level security integration standard when configured on the shaft.
